TEST PRINTS. some of them have seen super heavy action. others were sacrificed to keep the tools clean. there was zero intention to sell these at the start. the very first one was sold at a pop up in 2019. i had set up the racks with all these freshly printed teal and navy puff print long sleeves and at the bottom of the box i had these four shirts that looked completely thrashed(one of them i distinctly remember cleaning the studio floor with. the stains were incredible).i decided to hang them at the back of the rack with a $100 price tag. i REMEMBER thinking: theres no fucking way someone wants thIS shit. i was wrong. sold two of them right ofF the bat. i posted the other two up online and within minutes they were gone. one went off to japan the other ONE LIES STATESIDE.

i was haunted by perfection when i first started printing. probably a byproduct of being in the design agency meat grinder. i’d tweak on trying to get everything right even tho i was printing each one ON the kitchen floor. it was a one shot deal back then. once the screen was off the shirt there was no way to hit a thin spot again. I’D TAKE IT PERSONALLY IF IT DIDN’T WORK OUT.
i’ve eased up ON THE PERFECTION. being OFF THE FLOOR AND on a press helps GET THINGS RIGHT. that letting go hasn’t affected the quality AT ALL. STILL LAYING IT ON THICK TO LAST STUPID LONG AND BE REALLY COMFORTABLE ON HOT DAYS. these test prints ARE something special, whether its a rare graphic or paint drips from doing work in the street EACH ONE IS A BOOKMARK in the journey of the face. they’ve taught me its okay to let go of how i see something in my head and let whats right in front of me JUST be whats right in front of me.
